Bangla Road is an innocuous quiet street during the daylight hours, but once the sun sets over Patong Bay, this street transforms itself into the heart of the nightlife scene on the island of Phuket.
The street is closed to vehicles, bars quickly set up tables and chairs on the road, while the once quiet afternoon street erupts into a myriad of exciting sights, colour, music and crowds of fun-seekers. For anyone looking for a fun night out in Phuket, there's no place on the island quite like Bangla Road.
Nevertheless, a night of partying demands some fuel (a.k.a food) to keep you going. Luckily, Bangla Road can provide a wealth of delectable street dishes that will have you spoilt for choice. After passing the first few bars upon entering Bangla Road, look for a sign on the right for Patong Night Market. Upon entering this area, don't be put off by the crowds - they're there for a reason with many food stalls providing fresh fish, seafood, steaks, and meats as well as rice and noodles.
If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, you might also spot other foods of the insect variety, which are completely edible and tasty. Expect to pay a very reasonable amount for quality food priced around 400THB (around $12). Don’t forget to snap pictures as the store owners are delighted to share their food creations, especially for new Phuket travellers.
Once you're filled up with food, it's time to go and enjoy a few drinks out on the road.
Although staff members and hostesses will invite you into the bars, the best view is right out on the street. Plus, you don’t have to stick to one place as the entire road is lined up with different bars – we suggest barhopping to ensure you get a taste of everything!
Try to get a seat facing the road in order to watch the parade of tourists, locals, street performers and vendors selling everything from charm bracelets and bras to dresses and wooden handicrafts. It's the best show in town, especially when you’re enjoying it on a full stomach, and everything is done with a lighthearted sense of fun and humour.
One of the newest sensations on Bangla Road has to be the emergence of Illuzion Nightclub. It first opened its doors in 2014, and since then it has consistently become a magnet for nightlife-loving tourists to the island. In 2019 it was included in the top 100 rankings of nightclubs in the entire world.
It offers a top quality lineup of international DJs, performers, dancers and aerialists, a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system as well as it’s huge LED wall and room for 5,000 people, plus 300 VIP tables.
For your next visit to Patong Beach, make Bangla Road one of your nighttime destinations.
